The lights are dim as soon as you walk in, providing a romantic feel in the atmosphere. Two plasma televisions showing music videos roll back to back constantly while the crowd waits patiently for the accompanying music to fade away.

Within the room there’s a recording booth wide enough to hold several people. On the outside, both men and women occupy the few chairs facing it, set to receive what the night has to offer. Peering inside the booth, all eyes lock on the young gentleman, who soon exits smiling from ear to ear, taking control of the entire room.

“I’m very excited about this. This is the first time I have an itch like this,” said Trey Songz on Friday (August 17) night at Chapter V’s official listening party.

Continuing his short speech, the 27-year-old discusses the obstacles he overcame during the album’s process, giving thanks to his fans and everyone that helped him make his fifth studio album possible.

“I realized I have to stay authentic,” he finished before segueing into a few tracks.

All heads in room move to the beat of his 18-track album. The cadence between the soulful R&B sound and the high-tempo rhythm the singer described earlier could be felt throughout the room as the night went on. Hit singles, “Heart Attack” and “2 Reasons” were instant crowd pleasers as the crowd began to sing along to the lyrics. Though remaining inside of the recording booth, Trey Songz himself could be seen jamming along to his masterpiece.

After the entire album finished, a few people members of the audience stuck around to discuss what they just heard. From the moment being there until the very end, everyone in attendance seemed pleased as if there wasn’t a care in the world. Overall, Chapter V showcases what Trey Songz’s set out to do that night—providing the audience with a testament of his hard work and blossoming talent.
