Check out the exclusive interview below!

Interview Begins:
CTF: Who exactly is King Louie and from what part of Chicago are you?
King Louie: He’s a rap artist that is coming out of the city of Chicago, specifically, the south eastside neighborhood known as, “Dro City.” In addition to a rapper, I’m a real person just like you.

CTF: Why did you start rapping and when did you realized this was going to be your profession?
King Louie: I really grew up rapping. I was doing it in grammar school and continued from there. I went through a set of circumstances that inspired me to master my craft and turn it into a career. Basically, I got kicked out of high school; I went from hustling to recording in the booth routinely. I started to put out mixtapes and gain more and more fans. I always knew I wanted to do this, but I guess it was the buzz that has allowed me to turn this into my profession, be heard and perform for many people.

CTFAlthough a lot of people really started paying attention to you in 2011, you've actually been grinding in the rap game for some years now, your first 'tape Boss Shit was released in 2007. How much have you grown as an artist since?

King Louie: I’ve progressed tremendously since then. I’m always going to be the same person and what not, but since the first record, my beat selection has progressed, lyrics, subject matter, and more. I would say the music that the listener hears now is much more mainstream as opposed to the earlier days it was more of gangster music.

CTF: You recently signed to John Monopoly & Larro Wilson's newly formed label Lawless Inc. how did the deal come about? They are two industry veterans that care about their artists and can help anyone take it to the next level, what do you think they can do for you?

King Louie: I had picked up a buzz and a friend of mine, Hustle, brought my tape to John Monopoly. John and Larro were business partners and have helped in providing me with the major industry level connections to expand my music to a larger audience by taking it to the next level. I also liked the idea of Lawless Inc. being a new and highly covered Chicago based label as well, Chicago’s hip hop scene right now is experiencing a change in a positive way. Chicago is becoming more like an Atlanta where artists are beginning to work with one another and so forth, the idea behind Lawless I agreed with.

CTF: People are expecting great things from your upcoming project Dope & Shrimp and that hype seems to grow every time you drop a new verse, do you think you will be able to deliver what the public wants to hear from King Louie?

King Louie: I’m hoping people will be satisfied with what I deliver. We just dropped the video for Motion Picture as well as the mixtape, Motion Picture. As I said earlier too, this project shows my progression as an artist, there is a large list of new talent regarding production on the project too.  I think Dope & Shrimp has a little bit of something for everyone no matter what type of person you are.

CTF: What do you think of the new scene in the Chi?
